Physical Response-
By doing this project I learned the skill of creating complex patterns using simple lines and a simple process. I also enhanced the skill of creating patterns without hesitation. This are important skills to have because it makes it easier to create designs like this.
Emotional Response-
My emotions while doing this project were mainly a form of focus or stress. Stress because
I was afraid I would not finish and fall behind. Focus because when I was not stressed I was
blocking out all outer sounds with my iPod and trying to get the work done.A piece of music that I think describes the emotions and my artwork is in the link below. I think this music describes my art because it is very complex and it took a lot of time and work. The song is a mash- up of 25 songs and is called Blame it on the Pop http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iNzrwh2Z2hQ
A problem I had to overcome was that my pattern is very complex. With a complex pattern like this it was very hard to get the required number of paper squares finished. When I had finished I had the minimum amount of paper squares and mine were in black and white. I didn't have time to color them. You could also encounter this problem on almost anything. One example would be a school project, where something just takes to much time. You did everything write but you just can't get it done in the time given.
Doing this project increased our powers of observation because you always had to pay attention to your tessellation. You had to scour it over and over again to see things like if your paper was lined up with the paper under it or if the designs were exactly the same. This was especially with my project because I had so many small details to keep track of.
The elements we used in my piece of art were Lines, Shapes and Texture. I would have Color but I did not have time to color. These are some elements that can be found in most pieces of art.
I am not very satisfied with my project. Although I understand that I chose a very detailed and complex pattern, If I had to do it again I would change my pattern to something quicker, simpler and easier. This way I would be able to create more paper squares and I would have time to color my pattern.
Self Assessment and Reflection-
What we learned while doing this project are the same skills we enhanced while doing this.
learned how to create a continuous pattern without a break and how to create detailed patterns
in a simple way. Doing this project we also learned a little about MC Escher.
An artist who completed a piece of work much like mine was MC Escher. The link is a short video I made of MC Escher's work. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vOdTqo8XuT8
A profession where the skills we learned would be helpful would be a designer. A designer would be able to create detailed designs on objects using only simple lines . The second skill would also be helpful because the design would come together and would be finished faster.
